Jean-Jacques Matignon (1866-1928), French physician who served with the French embassy in Peking in the 1880s. He was a keen observer who wrote extensively about oriental medicine, crime and poverty in Beijing, and on the Imperial Japanese Army. His analysis of the medical heritage of the Russo-Japanese War is through, well-informed, and extensively illustrated.
