Dutch language much underestimated literary adaption of an ancient Hindostani Animal fable, which includes comparative information about related stories as found in the Mahabharata. It tells the story of a tyrannic Lion King, suppressing his subjects and his downfall caused by an opposing Hare. It is in fact the eternal struggle between Good and Evil. The original woodcut plates are of emblematic interest. Very fine copy of this less known but still important literary work by Israėl Querido, famous dutch naturalist author and novelist from jewish ancestry (also called Dutch Emile Zola), best known as author of the Amsterdam Jewish district De Jordaan, its population and pecularities.
