The 1601 coin was the first trade dollar issued by any European power in the East, but the unfamiliar coins were rejected in favour of the well-known 8 Real coins produced by Spain and its possessions. A very interesting investigation which is preceded by a concise history of the United Dutch Trade Company, V.O.C. Fine copy.
