Well annotated and documented historical biographical novel describing the career of Antonio van Diemen, 1596-1645, servant to the Dutch East India Company, V.O.C. under Jan Pieterszoon Coen, Governor-General of dutch colonial Indonesia in the first half of the seventeenth century, incl. i.a. a description of the Siege of Batavia by Mataram, 1619, consolidating company's rule over Indonesia. Good copy. (some occasional light fraying to extremities of dustjacket, some minor tears skilfully restored).
