De Veer, Leven en werk, (diss. 1969), see ills. on pp. 46, 151 and 170 depicting de Vries and his wife and the gradens at Lunteren.: A very good to fine copy of prof. Hugo de Vries' travels from Texas to Florida in the period October 1912 to December 1912. De Vries was invited to give 2 lectures at the newly opened 'William Rice Institute' Houston, Texas, on October 10 - 12, 1912. This travel account is easily available, but a copy with an autograph invitation by De Vries written to his 'Amice' J.Meyer is quite nice. De Vries invites Meyer to come and visit him in Lunteren, where de Vries had his house and large botanical garden. 'Amice ge zult [om?] as Dinsdag gaarne welkom zijn. Tracht het zo˘ in te richten dat ge tegen half een hier komt, en drinkt dan met ons koffie.- Alles lijdt bij ons onder de droogte, maar vandaag regent het. Tot weer ziens. Uw,,, Prof de Vries': The postcard is stamped 'Lunteren -5. VIII. 6 ...' and upon publication of this book in 1913 placed there by Meyer as a reminder of his visit. The card was sent to Meyer care of G.C. van Vliet, 7. Plantsoen, Woerden.
