(General browning, yellowing throughout.). (Prelims in erratic order/misbound). DSB XIV, pp. 639 - 640: Hirsch vol. V, pp. 1055/56: Ferchl, p. 598: Zwelfer (1618 - 1668) was a pharmacist at Vienna. His outstanding contribution was his general influence in reform of the pharmacopoeia. 1) and 2) Krivatsy 8919: Schelenz, 497: Ferguson vol. II, p. 572: 'He claimed to be the first person to reduce pharmacy to a system... He gave his name to Crocus Martis Z. prepared by igniting iron with saltpetre, and advised the washing of calomel with water to remove traces of corrosive sublimate. He criticised the 'Pharmacopoeia Augustana'in a series of "Animadversiones", Vienna 1652 ...': Kremers & Urdang, 584: 'His Animadversiones .. are the first known commentary on a pharmacopoeia.': Both first eds. 3) Comp. Krivatsy, 13287: Despite the rebinding in modern vellum and the unfortunate facs. of printed title and engraved title to the first part, this is quite an acceptable working copy of a rare pharmacopoeia.
