XVI,595 pp.First edition; with armorial bookplate of Mrs. Hamilton Nisbet. - Wittmann, a surgeon and physician, accompanied the British military mission which set out from Constantinople in 1799 and travelled overland to Egypt to take part in the campaign against the French. Others on the same mission included the young Joseph Hammer, later to become known as the great orientalist von Hammer-Purgstall, and William Stratton (Koç Collection 182).
