The author was a British diplomat who played a role in the short-lived independence of Latvia, that was proclaimed on November 18, 1918, but lasted only 20 years, when they were absorbed again by the Sowiet Union. The book describes the events during the period of the Latvian independence and is based on official British documents, on German and other writings of the period and on the author's experiences on his mission to the Baltic Provinces in 1919. With 3 photographs, a map of the region, a bibliography, chronology and an index. Very good copy and dust-jacket. A concise, but very thorough work.
