Contemporary tree calf with rebacked spine. Gilt spine on 5 raised bands with two morocco letterpieces. All edges gilt. Illustrated with two engraved title plates and 96 engraved plates. The engravings by François-Anne David after Binet, Gois, Lejeune, Monnet, Mortimer and Van Dyck. Nice set of plates depicting scenes in British history with accompanying text by Letourneur and Guyot. A [rare] third volume with only fifteen plates was published sixteen years later in 1800. Inner hinges taped. Foxed along edges. Volume I in beginnings slightly waterstained along upper margin. Corners bumped.
