In June 1876 Custer and some 250 officers and soldiers of the U.S. Cavalry perished in the most famous battle of the Indian frontier with the Sioux. This work is a reprint of Captain Godfrey's article in the January, 1892 issue of the "Century Magazine". Godfrey fought with Custer already in 1867. At Big Horn he commanded Troop K in benteen's Batallion and in 1890 he led his troop at the Battle of Wounded Knee. His short account of the Little Big Horn campaign and battle remains the most accurate, and above all, least biased, report. with an introduction by Robert M. Utley. Richly illustrated with portraits (a.o. of Godfrey as 1st Lieutenant, 7th Cavalry) and engravings. Title-page with emblem in gold. Both endpapers with maps.
