Journal de Conchyliologie. Volumes 2-4 (1st series).
Paris, Petit de la Saussaye, 1850-1853. Three parts in three, and set of plates. 8vo. (I) 15 plates (6 hand-coloured); (II) 444, iv pp., 12 (8 hc) pls.; (III) 452, iv pp., 14 (7 hc); (IV) 460, iv pp., 14 pls (8 hc). That is, a total of 55 plates, of which 29 hand-coloured. Matching red buckram with paper label on spine. All but the text of vol. I of the first series of this important malacological magazine. These volumes were edited by Sauveur Abel Aubert Petit de la Saussaye (1792-1870). After a two years gap, Paul Fischer and A. C. Bernardi (later replaced by Hyppolite Crosse) continued the magazine with a second and third series, but all were numbered consecutively as well. With many contributions by the most important conchologists and malacologists of its era. Includes the descriptions and illustrations of many new species. Uncut. Not a nice binding. Several plates especially to volume I, foxed. Otherwise a good set with a maximum number of hand-coloured plates.
