Title: Uniforms to be Worn by Her Majesty's Civil Servants at Home and in the Colonies.
Description: London, Harrison, (ca. 1860). Folio. Pp. 11. Comprising of title-page, divisional titles, and 6 colour-lithographed plates. Explanatory texts printed on versos. Large engraved Royal Coat-of-Arms on title-page. Hardcover, bound in the original publisher royal blue full cloth, large Royal Arms stamped in gilt on cover, gilt lettering; spine rebacked, frayed, lower corners worn, small light dampmark at outer upper corners of most leaves. Good, presentable copy, very good interior with rather fine plates. ¶ ~ First edition. Civil servants both at home and in the colonies were subject to minutely designed uniforms that in fine details disclosed their rank. The book describes the uniforms of the 5 classes, with the 5th class being the largest. Exact publication date remains a mystery. Oxford claims 1859 (OCLC 558728034), British Library (OCLC 13226994) claims 1866. This copy come from the library of C. P. Mulder, renowned collector and international heraldry authority, with his charming armorial bookplate,'Nil Desperandum', to first free endpaper.
