Stitched as issued in the original printed stiff wrappers, bit spotted, name on cover. Back wrap, the recto of which comprising of last page of text, is lacking, else a very good copy with exceptionally clean interior. ¶ ~ First edition. Extremely rare, one of the rarest Wehrmacht wartime manuals. A pocket guide and a dictionary in a nutshell to the use of German forces in the Easter Front. In 1943, the German combat force in the Soviet union amounted to almost 4 million soldiers. Though just a fraction of them was in need of communication with the local population and army, some means of communication was essential for others. The booklet first brings the Russian alphabet with equivalents and pronunciation in German. A list of the most important words of everyday communication follows. There is a list of words which are easily understood by the Russian; various short commands; etc. General military vocabulary, divided by military discipline, both in German and in Russian with transliterations into German, comprises most of the book. [WorlCat OCLC 64831099 locates only 2 copies worldwide, both in the Netherlands (NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies; and Dutch Defense Academy). Not a single institutional copy is located in Germany].
