The Battle of Sedan took place between the Franco-Prussian war on September 1, 1870. It resulted in the capture of the Emperor Napoleon III and large numbers of his troops. It decided, amongst other minor factors, the outcome of the war in favour of Prussia and his allies, though the war continued under a new french government.
